How do I measure my hat size?

To find out your hat size, you need to measure the circumference of your head; to do this you will need a measuring tape and a mirror. Take the measuring tape and place it at the back of your head. Next, draw both sides of the tape to the front, just above the ears and over the eyebrows, bringing it together roughly in the middle of your forehead. Please be careful not to pull the tape measure too tight. You can now use a mirror to read off your head circumference.

We recommend rounding up the number you see to the next full centimetre (e.g. round 57.5 cm up to 58 cm). If you want to wear your hat or cap pulled a little further forward or down over your forehead, then add an extra centimetre to the head circumference measured. Women should take care to comb their hair back flat when measuring their head (as shown in the picture).

Our special tip: If you do not have a measuring tape to hand, you can also use any piece of cord or string and then place it against a folding ruler to find the size. Again, it is important to round up the size measured to the next whole number. Too small a hat can cause headaches, whereas if a hat is a little too big, the difference can be compensated for with two strips of cork material. When these can be used to adjust the size correctly, we always deliver two cork strips with every hat.

For elongated head shapes, the cork strips should be placed on the sides, underneath the hat band. For rounder head shapes, we recommend placing the cork inserts at the rear end of the lining. Two cork strips can alter the hat size by around 1 cm. If you need more than the cork inserts that come with the hat, you can of course order more for a low price at Stetson.eu.

Men’s hat sizes can vary greatly. However, as a rule, ladies’ hats are produced in a standard size. The size range covered by such a standard size is described in more detail in the relevant product description. Standard sizes are often given different names. Here, the term “one size” or “osfa” (one size fits all) is used to describe these.
